Last Class

I have to say that I really enjoy this class, and no, I’m not being ass-kisser, but I really love English, so I can say that’s one of my favourite classes at university.

Having a blog is a little awkward to me because it’s like I’m talking with myself through screen and I don’t used to write about my feelings on internet so, this is a new experience to me despite that previous semester I have to do the same thing.

I think the best way to learn a different language is go to that country and live there for a while. Always I’ve got plans to travel to UK and take classes of English, and of course live there for a couple of months, years or maybe forever.

My weakness into English is speaking it. I don’t have problems reading or writing about everything that I want but when I have to speak into English with someone I feel a little nervous and forget every single word that I know. That always happen to me, so I think when I travel to another country I’ll familiarize with it.

About English, I always use that language. I listen to music (English music) every day of my life, and also I read newspaper of another countries or I read book by myself. My favourite books are written into English, so I don’t have difficulty with that.

Always try to practice by myself and don’t leave the language because when you stop talking about something, you forget it.

Well, thanks for reading every class and I hope beginning to write again very soon.

See ya!

2014: A Good Year

I’m not good talking about things or making a resume of every year because of some reasons: first, I’ve got a short term memory (and really that sucks! ) and secondly, I’m not good saying if this was good or bad.

So, this post is really difficult to me but, I think this was a good year by the way.

I always trying to live the present, leave the past in the past and don’t think much in the future, but every single thing that I wanted this year, it happened, so I think this is a very good sight.

Also, my friends and family always say that I’m very lucky. Ok, I’ve to say that is true. I’m a lucky one, every competition that I entered I win haha, always I win tickets to concerts, or tickets to see movies or CDs, etc. Like the proverb says: “good luck in game, bad luck in love”. That is my real story.

But, everything is not perfect, so despite of I’d a good year, some things didn’t too well. This year, my computer (my little son) died. And with his death, they take away from me all his information, photos, videos, etc. So then, I lost everything, because obviously I didn’t make a backup (stupid girl).

Whatever, my achievements this year, I don’t know. Haha. Living every single day makes you think in the present and just live it (carpe diem) so, I don’t think have a achievement this year.

And last, things I have to do, maybe can I say I have to apply for professional practice because I want to do it this summer. (I’m a little afraid for it).

Thanks for reading and see ya next time!

Dirty Money

Honestly, I hate money.  I hate being depended of this dirty way to live on.  I hate when people change when they have lots of money or even the discrimination that exist because of money. But in the world with live in, it’s absolutely necessary (and it’s sucks by the way).

So, how we are talk about money this time, I will say how money affects my life. Here I go.
I could say that I’m very good keeping money. I always know how to manage and how to spend this on things I need. I think it is legacy from my dad, because he’s like a genius on use money and I’m in the same way.

I can say that my family is not rich but we aren’t poor neither. We live with the things we need and we don’t lack anything. But money is a thing with deal every single month. Like the most Chilean families must to do.

But If I would be millionaire, honestly, I’d spend my money on clothes, music, concerts and books. My favorite things by the way. But as can you see, money it’s not necessary in my life. And I hope it would never be in that way.

As I said, the most part of my money I spend on concerts. This is one of my most important things on my life, so I try to go to every concert of my favorite musicians in Chile.

Finishing with this post, If I ever had to pawn of my own belongings, I think I pawn my books. Because it’s an easy way to get cash.

How Green Are You?

Honestly, I’m not green at all. I mean, I’m not into recycle. And that’s not because I don’t care at all, it’s because I never done it before and those things aren't into my habits.

And this is the bad situation. The most people don’t know how to recycle or what kind of things they can do to help our planet and this is a government’s responsibility because they must to have laws or citizen regulations and teaches people how to use them.

By the way, I can say that I help on Greenpeace as much as I can I do. I’m register in this organization and always try to sign their campaigns. For example, I’m one of their citizens at Glacier Republic, a campaign to keep and protect our glaciers from thermoelectric companies who abused too bad of our natural resources.

I know, it’s my fault don’t know what else can I do to help to save our planet but sometimes I don’t have time enough to do another things like this ( I know, it’s a bad excuse).

Honestly, in my case, I always prefer to walk rather than go to the bus. Even at subway because I hate subway, but bicycle and walk I think are the best options to try to help Earth.

Also, Keep the water or divide the rubbish I think is the best way to help. Everybody can do that and we just to read and learn about it a little more and try to do the best of us.

See ya next time!

A piece of news

Today i’m going to comment about a piece of news that involves a lot of people who live in Santiago: Transantiago strike.

Since the beginning of the day, bus drivers started a labor strike because their labor laws. In my opinion, their demand is fair because they don’t have minimum requisites to work or even they don’t have a right place to rest or to eat in their lunch hour.

But, even when they are in all their right, the citizens are the victims. Especially the working-class who needs to travel hours to go to work or study or everything. Always the periphery of the city is the most effect of everything and in this case isn’t the exception.

I live on Puente Alto, the commune with more population density, and travel around the city is difficult already so when all those things happens we keep enclosed and we can’t do nothing to change about.

Arriving the university was hard this morning to me, because buses didn’t stopped to catch people or they didn’t passed.

News like that are awful. Tv always show us the bad news first and it affects the viewers. I would like to watch on TV cheerful news or something like that. Sometimes, people needs to see good things to change their mood and television have the power to do it even without lose their mission of inform the country.

See ya next week!

My future job

Well, about my future job I have some ideas that could help me to take that difficult decision. In first place, I’ve always love music. It means a lot to me, in entertainment way and also in every time of my life so I’ve been looking for something to relative to it.

My dream job is working on radio. I think is the best mass media even more important than TV. And that is the reason why I’ve planned to study music or something about it in the future – after finish journalism-.

What can I say about my weakness? A lot.  I’m a little perfectionist so I always, in everything that I do, try to find what I do wrong or something like that. And that’s a big weakness because you’re never comfortable with yourself.

But it’s a strength too because trying to do the perfect things, you put the best of you on it. Another strength of myself is that I’m organized. I try to write list about the things that I have to do. But, one of my worst weakness is that I’m forgetful. My memory is the worst of the worst, and maybe that’s the reason why I have to write everything on my list.

Anyway, my dream is to be a music journalist and I’m work on it so hard to carry through.

My Best Friend

Friendship to me is a very important thing in my life. Happily I can say that I have a best friend and she called Ana. We met at high school because we were classmates. So, we are friends since six years ago.

Honestly, despite we are different, because we both have different personalities, we are closer and we always try to keep in touch.

Ana is studying nursing at Universidad de Santiago, also known as USACH, so we both are studying in Santiago and isn’t complicated to reunite us.

I consider her as my best friend because of a lot of things. She always supported me on everything, so I try to do the same thing. Also we are taking care of each other, so the love is mutual.

I can’t remember a best memory because we have a lot of best memories (also I’ve short term memory, so I can’t remember exactly) but every time we spend together is a good time.

We try to see each other every week, but if we couldn’t, we try to call or texting every day. This thing makes us near in a kind of way.

Here is a photo of us when we were classmates and already best friends.

The best concert I've had

Honesty, I go to concerts a lot. I love music so always I try to assist to shows of my favorite artists. But the most important concert to me was: Bruce Springsteen.

Springsteen is an American singer, musician and songwriter. I know his music about years ago so when he posted he would come to Chile, I needed those tickets.

Well, it was September 12th of 2013. He and his band – called The E Street Band – played at Movistar Arena Santiago. It wasn’t a sold out but definitely it was the best concert of my entire life.

The reasons are simple: he is The Boss (as he is known). His performance at stage is absolutely amazing. And he’s 64 but his energy was if he was a teenager.

The show last 3 and a half hours. And he did everything on stage: run, jump, talk in Spanish, covering Chilean songs, crowd-surfing, take fans to stage and as if that wasn't enough, he kissed a girl from crowd. A-ma-zing.

I’ve got the best memories of this night. And also, this concert was the first one that I assisted alone, so it was a total new experience to me.

Also, music critics and journalists said it was the best concert of 2013 too, so this show is special to many people because it was the first time (and maybe the last one) that Bruce came to Chile. And please, if you have one chance to see him (one day) please please do it
!.

Here is a song by Bruce (most popular) called Born in the Usa

My Favourite Movie

Firstly, I have to say that I’m not good seeing movies. I don’t know why but I prefer to read books so, I haven’t see a lot of movies in my life but quite of opposite, I watched a few of them.

So, I can consider two movies as my favourites all the time. The first one is “August Rush” and the second one is “If I Stay”. But in this blog I’m going talk about the first one.

August Rush is the story of a boy called Evan Taylor (Freddie Highmore) who lost his parents. He never knew them at all but the only thing that keeps him alive was the music.

His parents met each other in a party; his mother, Lyla (Keri Russell), was a recognized cellist and his father, Louis (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), was the lead singer of a rock band. After they meet, they slept together but they separated in the next morning and they never seen again but after a couple days, Lyla realized she was pregnant.

When Evan is eleven, he lives in an orphanage outside New York because his grandfather puts him in adoption and that’s the reason why he’s always trying to look for his parents and the music is who take them back.

So, Evan runs away from orphanage and follows his music. After he’s found for people who try to use his talent and earn money because of him.

Opposite, his mother after knows his son is alive, she try to find him and also Louis try to find Lyla after he broke up with his wife.

In the end, Evan is selected to play his rhapsody in a concert under the pseudonym of August Rush and besides his mother decided to play cello again in the same concert. Louis knows that Lyla will play there so that’s how they all meet for a very first time.

The last part of this movie is my favourite one because they finally reunited , this is very emotional. And I wouldn’t change anything about the movie because it is perfect.

This movie is my favourite because I feel the music the same way as Evan did, so I feel a little emotional about that.

If you love the music, definitely you must to see this movie.

Thanks for reading.

London.

Beautiful and wonderful London. Since I have memory always I’ve wanted to go to London. It’s the dream of my life.

Maybe you though why London or What does London have, honestly I don’t know but I love everything about this place: the builds, architecture, culture, language, music, monarch (I hate all those things around the world but I can’t hate The British Monarch), sports (my favourite football team is Manchester United), boys (oh boys! British boys are the best!) etc. I could count a lot of things more but I don’t have enough time (and words hahaha).

I think that I lived there before, in my past life of course (honestly, I believe in all those spiritual things) because I dream about it, even I always told my mom that I want to get married to english man and live there until I die (one day).

Every day I read London’s newspapers because I want to know everything about it. I always find new british musicians on social networks because destiny wants it (haha). Many bands I listen to everyday are from Uk, so I habitually related to Uk (London specially).

I hope to go to London very soon, find a job and live there because I’m afraid if I go to Uk just for fun I will not return to Chile anyway. So, that’s the reason why I want to go to settle there forever.

And here you go a photo (one of my favourites photos of London) if you want to understand why Uk is the perfect country to live.

Little things about me

Welcome to my blog everyone!

Well, my name is Luz Venegas and I’m 20 years old. I’m studying journalism at Universidad de Chile and I’m in the English class level 4, that’s the reason, why I’m writing this right now.

I living in Puente Alto with my parents and my little brother called SebastiƔn.
My hobbies are the reason why I’m studying journalism. I love music a lot, write about things and take photos so this career is perfect because it let me to mix all those things.

My weakness in English is speaking. I read a lot of books in this language and usually I write in English because of the music I listen to, but when I have to speak, I’m getting nervous and I get freaking out.
I hope to learn so much in this class and obviously have fun.

Take it or Leave it

Today I’m going to talk about music. Honestly I declare myself as a music lover. I listen to music all day, every day. Music is my company when I’m alone or when I travel to everywhere.

So, I go to concerts of course.

When my favorite singer (Julian Casablancas) of my favorite band (The Strokes) came to Chile to play some shows last March I needed to meet him. I did it, and it was amazing by the way.

But the point is, when I met him I had an idea. Ask him if he could play my favorite song live. The song called “Take It or Leave It” and it’s my favorite because it was the first song that I listened to by this band.

Honestly, I never thought he would remember it and do it after.  He played this song in his two shows in Chile and I was there, of course.

This a memory that I will remember forever, because if you know someone you admire and after he remember you it makes feel you a special person for a second. Like a dream made true.

An Expert on your Field

The man in the picture is Alfredo Lewin. Perhaps you are wondering who him is, and the answer is that he’s a chilean communicator, specially he’s dedicated to the music.

Alfredo was born in 1969 in Santiago, Chile. He studied Licentiate Degree in English Language and Literature at Catholic University of Chile. But he never worked on it. After the graduation, he travelled to United States for working on MTV.

Maybe he is the man who knows more about music in Chile and Latin America right now. He has worked in different jobs, each one about music journalism, because for him music is more than a style of art. For Alfredo, music is a style of his life.

Currently, he’s working on “Sonar FM” Radio and as well, he’s the director of “Rockaxis” Magazine.

Also, he was awarded as “Personaje Radial del AƱo” this month by ARCHI.

I admired him because Alfredo is a very good communicator and also, he knows so much about music. Music to me is everything, so I dream with work on it in the future as Alfredo did and still he do it.

The danger of a single story

I really think that in Chile the news are a little awful. The reason is because the newspaper and the television always show crime, painful stories and bad things happened.

Also, sometimes the stories they show aren’t good. Sometimes only one side of the story is shows and the others sides or point of views haven’t into it. Honestly, I’m not pretty sure if in Chile freedom of speech really exists because the people who have the power always have the control of press so only the information is manipulated by them and people consume it.

I totally agree with Chimmanda Adichie. She’s right about many points. First one, she speaks about the discrimination. Sometimes people think something wrong just because the ignorance they have. The Mass media help in it too, only express what they want, and people believe in it and think it is totally true. But isn’t.

I think, we as journalist have the mission of showing different point of views of the stories. We have to express the reality as much as we can. How the thing really happens and after the people could think by themselves, have their own opinion about something that happened.

A Picture that I like

Well, there I am with my best friends. In the left is Margara and in the right is Ana. I am in the middle of them. This picture was taken in my house on my birthday in March of 2013.

I met them in high school in 2008. We were classmates and this is how we started our friendship. With them I share everything in my life and I try to give them back everything that they do as much as I can. I think this is how friendship is, take care about your friend in the good and the bad.

Now, I am studying journalism, Ana is studying nursing at Universidad de Santiago and Margara is studying design at Universidad de Chile like me.

Honestly, this picture means everything about friendship to me, because they are the most special people that I have in my life after my family.

Technology

Honestly, I’m not interest in technology. Or rather it doesn’t mean I don’t like technology but I’m not very good with it. Those things always break down in my hands and I don’t know why! (I’m not kidding). So my slogan is like this: “Breaking things, I learn how to use them”. Take your own conclusions.

So, I think my favorite technology thing is my cell phone. I always take it and bring it with me everywhere I go. It was a present from my dad on Christmas, tree years ago I guess, because my old one was broken (ups! don’t ask).

On my cell phone I do a lot of things. I waste my time on Facebook, talk with my friends on Whatsapp, post photos on Instagram (I love it, by the way), write on Twitter and also I listen to music all day, so it is so useful.

Unbelievably, I don’t like much speak by phone. I hate it. So this is very ironic because I use the cell phone every time to do my things but I don’t like call or whoever calls me.

My Last Vacation

On my last vacation I worked for the very first time. I’ve never worked for anybody, so this was a new experience to me. I worked as a cashier a supermarket, Jumbo Bilbao exactly. I was there for almost a month (December-January) and after that, I had my precious vacation.

Honestly, I didn’t do much on my vacation. I rested pretty much but also I helped my parent on their construction because my dad has been working on the extension of my house. By the way, the construction isn’t finished yet.

February came, so my friends and I had an idea: travel to the beach for one day. And we did it. We travelled to ViƱa del Mar in a car and we spend there all day. It was a sunny day so the beach was amazing. A crazy thing that everyone has to do someday.

When I arrived to Santiago, my grandmother called me and told me that she and my uncles going to the beach for the weekend so she invited me. This way it was how I went to the beach twice.

I came to Santiago on Sunday night and that Monday was my birthday so, those days were a little crazy and wonderful at the same time.

Expectations for a new semester

I am studying journalist at Universidad de Chile. I’m on 3rd grade, in the middle of my career. Why I choose this career? Honestly I don’t know. When I was seventeen, one day I woke up with the idea in my mind, because this mixes all my favorite hobbies: music, photography, radio and write things. So here I am.

After all this time, I am still afraid because I am not sure if I could be a good journalist. My dream is to be a music journalist, and travel around the world living concerts, take a picture and write about it (also get a pay for it, it is awesome).

In my career, my favorite subject right now is Radio. I want to work on it, since I was a child, I have always listened to radio on my home and I was a pretty excited to learn about it and be one of those radio announcers. About to write, I love it. Doing TV, I hate it. So radio is my best option.
